Wooden box shelves – When many people think of the bookshelf as they think of a trip to the furniture store or hiring a craftsman. This can be an expensive endeavor and it may never fit perfectly to your specific needs. Creating your own custom shelves is relatively simple and you can add perfect functionality and style to any space in your home; all while maintaining its reasonable costs. Build custom wooden shelves by reducing their parts, forming them and adding the finishing touches. Determine the width and height of your shelf in inches by taking measurements of the area with the tape measure. On a piece of paper, draw a model of the shelf unit complete with the measurements.
Build hard wooden box shelves, mark a piece of 1 foot by 10 feet of wood with a pencil to the length of its first side. Draw a line through the wood using the steel ruler and then cut the piece to size. Do the same with the second side. Cut the shelf in the same way as the sides, measuring the length of the shelves, which marks the wood and then the cut to size. Mark the platform locations of the studs using the tape measure and a pencil on two of the sides placing the sides together, marking the distance from the bottom or top and then draw the pencil through both shelves using the steel rule as guide. Cut the farewell strips to the depth of the shelf and glue them on the inside of the sides where you marked the locations of the studs.
Lay one side on the floor, staples up, and has an assistant hold two wooden box shelves in place. Place the second side over the shelves and make sure the shelves are flush against the front, back and staples. 6d hammer finishing nails on the sides (through the shelves) to secure in place. Once complete, turn the finished side one and place the other side in the same way. Pieces cut from the fascia to fit the frame of the unit and fix them with nails to add to the decorative value of your piece. Do the same with the edges of the shelf as well. Match wood stain to other pieces of furniture that you have in the designated room and apply to your shelf until you have the desired color, making sure to wipe off the excess dye to avoid runs.
